Lots of people run for the positive impact it has on their mental health. This is something that is close to our hearts and to many people we know so we've decided to run our first ever marathon to show our support for the work Mind are doing to provide more support services and to stamp out the stigma (see their work here: https://www.mind.org.uk/news-campaigns/campaigns/) including their campaign Time To Change.
Mental health problems are a growing health concern around the world. Mixed anxiety and depression is currently the most common mental health disorder in Britain. Mental health issues affect 1 in 4 people at some stage in their life, yet mental health still carries a stigma and people are made to feel ashamed and isolated. The stigma stops people from talking about the problem and getting the help they need, which often makes things worse, and in severe cases can result in suicide, which remains the most common cause of death for men aged 20-49 in the UK.
We've run 10k's and half marathons together but never a full marathon. We've been training using our Nike running app to keep us connected from Manchester to London, and we'll post updates on here and our social media when we can.
We'll be running for all those who know what it's like to battle with their own mind every day #oktosay
Any donation will be hugely appreciated. Thanks so much :)
