Run to beat poverty 2018
Campaign by Tearfund (RCN 265464)
Poverty isn’t going to end itself – each one of us has a part to play. Run with Team Tearfund and, together, let's help finish poverty for good.

Story

Tearfund are a charity of Christians who want to see an end to poverty.

Birungi lives in a remote part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Because she was a girl she never went to school and felt worthless, with no prospects. But everything changed for her when Tearfund got involved, helping Birungi to learn to sew and run a business.

I started running in the summer of 2017, doing 5ks a few times a week. I didn't start with the intention of running the London Marathon, but have since experimented with slightly longer distances and would love to be able to say I've done a marathon. I'm combining my enjoyment of running with a fantastic cause in Tearfund, and I hope you'll sponsor me so that loads more people like Birungi can have the amazing help that Tearfund provide!

The money I raise from now on will go to Tearfund's Matched Giving Appeal. Money raised before 17 May, will be doubled by the UK government, up to £3 million.

All donations will be used by Tearfund to transform lives around the world where the need is greatest.

Match funding from the UK government will be used by our partners in Pakistan to set up innovative waste recycling hubs. Not only will these hubs help tackle waste and plastic pollution, they will provide sustainable livelihoods and improve the living conditions in some of Pakistan's poorest slum communities.

Every £42 doubled could provide waste collection for two families like Rubinas, making their local environment cleaner and safer.
