Danie Spence's 24x24x24 Abbott Six Marathon Journey

Berlin Marathon 2024 · 29 September 2024 ·
My mother, Dava, was first diagnosed with blood cancer when she was only 47-years old. Thankfully, chemotherapies and an autologous stem cell transplant provided her with nearly twenty additional years of life!
There has been notable advancement and innovation in stem cell transplantation since Dava's initial diagnosis, but locating compatible donors remains a significant challenge for those requiring an allogeneic transplant. By raising money for Anthony Nolan, my hope is that I may be able to indirectly help other families gain time with their loved ones.
Since first fundraising with Anthony Nolan for the London Marathon, I have received an incredibly generous outpouring of support which spurred me on to try to raise as much money for stem cell and cancer charities as possible! My goal is simple: 24 months x 24 hours x $24,000 -- run all six Abbott World Majors in 24 months; complete all majors in less than 24 hours total running time; and, most importantly, raise $24,000 for cancer and stem cell charities.
We are halfway there! To date, $11,800 has been raised; 12 months has passed since I first embarked on this challenge; and I have completed three out of six Abbott Majors in less than 12 hours running time. Your past donations helped add a potential 136 new donors to Anthony Nolan's transplant registry.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your donations.
*Every day, Anthony Nolan saves the lives of people with a blood cancer or blood disorder. We do this by matching incredible individuals willing to donate their stem cells to people who desperately need a lifesaving transplant. We also carry out cutting edge scientific research, fund specialist post-transplant nurses and support patients and their families through the transplant process and beyond. We won’t stop until we save the lives of everyone who needs a stem cell transplant. Every penny you donate brings us closer to that day.*
