Story
A few people have asked me lately why I am so interested in dementia care and fundraising, here is my story.
Sadly dementia has played a part in our family for many years contributing to the loss of my grandad and Bren's grandma both loved and missed.
An ongoing part of my life is my stepdad who up until a hospital admission lived at home cared for by myself and my sister. George was lucky to survive his illness and although he received fantastic care the effect of his hospital stay in terms of the environment and routine meant he was unable to return home.
With hindsight moving to a nursing home was the best thing for him and something that should have happened sooner but it was sad knowing he never got the chance to see him home or say goodbye to his friends.
For some people with dementia a hospital admission is unavoidable but by raising money to make changes to the hospital through the dementia appeal will hopefully make these stays a little less traumatic and result in a more positive outcome for these patients and their families.
With your support, York Teaching Hospital Charity is making a real difference in our local hospitals- making patients, relatives and visitors feel better and providing a level of care that is beyondthat which NHS funding alone could deliver.Patients receiving treatment now and in the future at York Hospital, Scarborough Hospital, Malton Hospital, Bridlington Hospital, New Selby War Memorial Hospital, St Helens & White Cross Court Rehabilitation Hospitals and St Monica’s in Easingwold will all benefit from money raised. Thank you .
