Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My name is Bernadette Hagans and shortly after turning 22 I was diagnosed with a rare & aggressive form of cancer called Synovial Sarcoma. This resulted in my leg being amputated. I try to use my experience to help others across the world in similar situations. During my treatment I got the chance to spend time in the Cancer Fund for Children’s Daisy Lodge in Newcastle, Northern Ireland. I’ve been fortunate that I’ve gotten the opportunity to speak to a lot of cancer patients and their families in the South, so instantly, my aim was to try to get these services available there too. They should be for the whole island.
Daisy Lodge is a therapeutic place designed to give families much needed breaks away from cancer as well as the chance to connect with others. It provides 5 star facilities as well as a team of specialists to provide amazing support during such difficult times. My time there is something I will never forget. Cancer Fund for Children are now in the process of opening a Daisy Lodge in Co.Mayo. This is a huge step towards providing services in the South but funds are still needed.
My next fundraising plan is to take part in the Superhero Skydive in Offaly in September, I’m not the biggest fan of heights but I’m so excited because I know it’s so worth it.
If you are able to donate anything, please do. Together we can try to get these services available for those that need them in the South. September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month so let’s do what we can for Daisy Lodge for Mayo!
To keep up to date with everything, my socials are @bernadettehagans. Cancer Fund for Children are @cancerfundforchildren & @daisylodge4mayo for our Southern page.
Thank you! :)
