Great North Run 2014 · 7 September 2014 ·
Aged just 2 years, my friends Son, Oliver Lee was diagnosed with a rare cancer, Rhabdomyosarcoma. Just 60 children a year are diagnosed with this.
Ollie was strong, and courageous and in spite of the battle he faced and the grueling side effects of his treatment, he remained a happy character.
Ollie responded well to treatment and in September 2012 he was in remission. Unfortunately, in the following months, the tumours returned and sadly Ollie lost his fight against cancer on 16th February this year, aged just 4 years old.
Make a Wish foundation granted Ollie's
a wish to go to the North Pole to meet Father Christmas and although he was too
ill to go, the lift it gave Ollie and his courageous parents was amazing to
see. The work this charity does is truly special. Bringing happiness to
families at such a dark time in their lives.
Running
13.1 miles from Newcastle to South Shields in the Great North Run I have
previously raised money for Cystic Fibrosis Trust,British Lung
Foundation, Cancer Research and Macmillan, this time around I have chosen to raise money for Make a Wish Foundation in memory of Ollie and to
help this charity fulfill more wishes and bring a few more smiles to some
little faces.
Please
do what you can to support them too.
