Story

To donate text POEM70 £5 to 70070

Bespoke Poems in aid of Amyloidosis provides bespoke poems for special occasions or marketing purposes, in exchange for a donation to the UCL Amyloidosis Research Fund.

We write bespoke poems for any occasion; birthdays, anniversaries, births, christenings, marriages, Mother's/Father's/Valentine's Day, farewells, memorial services or anything else you like! We can also provide poems for use by organisations and causes for marketing purposes.

The founder Chloe Bullock, whose Mum suffers from Amyloidosis, wanted to use her creativity in order to raise money for this charity on an on-going basis. Chloe's poems have always proved popular with friends and family, so she decided to widen her audience and raise some much-needed funds for this important cause at the same time. Chloe's poems are likely to bring a tear to your eye but will hopefully raise a smile too!

How does it work?

After you initially contact us, we will ask for specific details about the person/organisation/occasion for which it is required in order to tailor it perfectly to your needs. Once we have enough information we will put pen to paper, then email you with the draft poem once it is ready. We can then tweak it together, according to your personal requirements. When you are happy with the finished article we ask that you make a donation via our page on justgiving.com. We ask for a minimum donation of £25 per poem, but ideally we would like you to donate the amount that you feel justifies the quality of the service you have received. One you have donated we will send you your poem by email.

What is Amyloidosis?

There are various types of amyloidosis, all caused by aggregation and accumulation of specific proteins in tissues and organs throughout the body. These proteins exist in an abnormal fibre‑like form (amyloid fibrils, amyloid deposits) that build up and progressively interfere with the structure and function of affected organs throughout the body. Different proteins are implicated in different types of amyloid, and treatment depends on precise identification of the particular amyloid protein. Amyloidosis is a general name for the disease, and amyloid is the name of the abnormal protein deposits that accumulate in the body.

A Farewell Poem (to friends moving away):

It began early one Saturday, in the mid-winter cold.
Six naive little faces all about to be told...
...about oxytocin and latch, contractions and pain,
but nothing to prepare us for what we would gain.
Three adorable boys! Such a cute little gang.
Each one so special, each his own little man.
We were bursting with love, of a brand new kind.
That magical feeling, that sadly some never find :(
This first year of adventure, has at times been tough,
but knowing they're safe and happy is usually enough.
They've given our lives a new purpose, these three little men.
They also brought us together - we'd not have met without them!
Now you are leaving for a brand new start.
We will miss your smiling faces and your kind, loving hearts.
But we wish you well, so good luck to all three.
Enjoy 'that there Yorkshire' and it's wonderful tea!
Thank you for your friendship, health & happiness in all you do.
Don't like the thought of 'goodbye'; let's just say "see you soon!"
