Story

Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie are calling on the nation to get down to the pool for Swimathon 2020 - thousands of swimmers, two great causes, one big charity challenge. Cancer Research UK, the worlds leading cancer charity is dedicated to saving lives through research. They don't receive any government funding for their work, so their progress is all thanks to the support of people like you. Marie Curie provides expert care, guidance and support for people living with any terminal illness, and their families. Around 2,100 Marie Curie Nurses work day and night, in peoples homes all over the UK, providing hands-on care to people when they need it most.On 27th - 29th March, over 21,000 swimmers will be heading to over 600 pools across the UK to raise money for our two amazing charity partners. Together we can really make a difference. We invite our swimmers to tell their story to help spread awareness and raise vital funds for these two incredible causes.

Im taking part in one swimathon on Saturday 28th March in a team 5k (200 lengths!) AND a second team 5k on Sunday 29th March- send help 😂

My dad put a LOT of time into my swimming for so many years, driving me all over for competitions, getting up to take me to those early morning training sessions and just generally being my biggest supporter and fan! He was so proud so now it’s time to do something to make him extra proud, and to show all of that commitment didn’t go completely to waste!
He’d also continue to help out at galas long after I’d quit!
Therefore, it only seems fitting to take part in this event in memory of him 💙

If all of my Facebook friends alone just donated £1, we’d be well over the target! But if you can’t donate, please can you share 💞

Cancer affects everyone in one way or another, but the more support which goes into cancer research the  closer we can get to that goal of a cure!
We only had to deal with 3 months of everything with my dad from the point of diagnosis (which doesn’t make it any easier), but I know families go through it for months or even years! I couldn’t imagine seeing my dad suffer for any longer than he did, and definitely not over the course of years! 💔

If I can contribute in some way to help try and stop other people/families going through what we’ve had to go through (a number of times in this family), then I will 💪🏻

Thank you xxx
