Amsterdam Marathon 2022 · 16 October 2022 ·

We're dedicated to beating blood cancer. We fund research and support those affected. Since 1960, we've invested over £500 million in blood cancer research, transforming treatments and saving lives. The day we beat blood cancer is now in sight and our researchers are determined to finish the job.

Story

Well, over the Christmas break this year, I rather foolishly signed up to run my first full marathon. I totally blame my running guru sister-in-law for having some crazy belief that I could actually do it. So, in October this year, we'll be heading off to Amsterdam to run 42km around it.

There are a few of us running in October - one running the marathon, one trying to run the marathon and a few running the half marathon:

Emma Rettig (Marathon); Beth Rettig (Marathon); Gwin Mparutsa (Half marathon); Charles Kasule (Half marathon); Ian Kember (Half marathon).

We are raising money for Blood Cancer UK because I have seen first-hand how passionate they are about raising awareness around blood cancer and funding research that improves, and often saves, lives for blood cancer patients and provides support to patients and their families. Any amount that you can donate matters - it all adds up.

Special shout out to Liverpool Joe who I met in the Lamb in Chiswick who, for no reason other than he's a nice guy, donated £5 even though I'd never met him before.

We're a community dedicated to beating blood cancer. We do this by funding research and supporting those affected. Since 1960, we've invested over £500 million in blood cancer research, transforming treatments and saving lives. Right now, our community is funding 360 researchers and staff across the UK who are searching for the next breakthrough. The day we will beat blood cancer is now in sight and the researchers are determined to finish the job.
