21st of December 2004 was the first of my son, Kieran's many visits to the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham. He was 7 months old. 

He has, amongst other conditions a form of restricted growth called Achondroplasia and this presents many challenges in life, the ones requiring orthopaedic intervention are numerous and have all been met head on with support, compassion and incredible skills through the various teams at ROH. Kieran has had 100s of procedures in his life, including 30 under anaesthesia. Hundreds of hours of therapy, 5 years of spinal bracing, a decade of limb lengthening, orthotics, hydrotherapy and still a life time to go working on his ankles, legs and back. 

As a family we have been supported every step of the way by the hospital and at the moment ki is doing well, so well infact that I am able for the first time since he has been born, to give something back. And by taking part in the Velo I hope to do that. I purchased my bike on the 17th Jan this year, and immediately knew that I wanted to take on a challenge and I know it isn't going to be easy, with support and encouragement from my son, his sister and our friends to watch him when I'm training and seeing donations roll in I know I can do this.
