Story
As many of you will know the London Marathon was due to go ahead this Sunday (26th) and is the world’s biggest one-day fundraising event, which raised more than £66.4 million for thousands of charities in 2019.
The Covid-19 pandemic has had a catastrophic effect on charities with the cancellation of thousands of events and the loss of billions in income through fundraising events. Many of these charities have had to reduce or stop services at a time when vulnerable members of society need them most.
I will be taking on the 2.6 challenge to raise vital money for the Coronavirus Care Workers Emergency Fund. This emergency appeal has been set up to help provide financial grants for care workers who are struggling, going hungry and may be unable to pay their bills due to inadequate or denied sick pay and zero hour contracts.
Care workers are at the frontline of this pandemic, caring for the most vulnerable people in our society who are most susceptible to the disease. However, If a care worker needs to self-isolate, or falls ill they will fall into desperate need. The charity has already had an 1000% increase in applications and in just two weeks has awarded 371 grants to the same value as all their grants given last year.
My 2.6 challenge is to cover 26 miles in 26 hours. Sticking to the governments guidelines I will be cycling 10 miles (in one hour) this Saturday and 10 miles on Sunday. I will cover the remaining 6 miles at my home on a cross-trainer. Please support me and help care for carers by donating anything you can. The cost of a daily commute or a coffee perhaps. A little will go a long way! :-)
Thank you! X
