Brightlingsea Academy- providing place of education and two daily meals to children living below the poverty line aged 0 - 11 years old, Girl Power - supporting vulnerable young women to give them all the tools they need to stay in school and become educated, financially independent young women.

Story

At the beginning of year 5 I set out my aspirations for the year as a piece of homework. One of my aspirations was to raise money for the Porridge and Pens Ghana charity which my Auntie is the founder of. Auntie Jemma is inspirational and has changed so many peoples lives in Ghana. She truly is a hero to many Ghanaian children, young adults and their families and she’s my hero too.

I feel it is time to complete my promise and have decided to run one mile a day for the entirety of my long awaited holiday which means I will run 13 miles which is a half marathon for my little legs!

I will start each day with my run thinking of those children in Ghana who are less fortunate than me and can’t afford food and don’t have the opportunity to go to school. I will reflect and be thankful for everything I have in my life.

I’m hoping you’ll all dig deep to be able to help me make a difference to the Girl Power project which gives girls aged 11-15 the opportunity to go to school. £20 a month supports a girl through the Girl Power project.  This money provides a girl with and educational grant and gives them everything they need to succeed at school.

My hope is to raise enough to send one girl to school for a whole year. I LOVE school and have made so many friends,  I really hope I’m able to give someone else this same opportunity.

Thank you.
