Cross Channel Swim Relay · 24 September 2022

Blesma, The Limbless Veterans helps all serving and ex-Service men and women who have lost limbs, or lost the use of limbs or eyes, to rebuild their lives by providing rehabilitation activities and welfare support.

Story

I am now a retired Royal Signals soldier and swimming is my passion. Back in in 2020 while serving, the Royal Corps of Signals turned 100yrs old. To celebrate that, members of the Corps Swimming Team intended to swim the English Channel as a relay event. Covid put a stop to it then but we are back at it and I am grateful to have been invited to be part of the team, as a veteran, and will be swimming it (weather and tide be on our side) in the week 24th  September 2022.

How does it work? Well we are a 6 person team and we will each swim for 1 hr and conduct a hand over in the water until we hit France. We will be in swimwear as wetsuits are not allowed and we are supported by a Channel Swim and Piloting association pilot (and of course his boat and crew). We are aiming to complete the 22 miles in under 15 hours.

Since we are doing such an epic challenge we thought it was a great opportunity to raise some funds for a charity hence we have chosen a military charity, Blesma. We would truly appreciate all your support and I will post links to a tracker so you can follow our progress when the time comes.
