Back in September last year I sustained a pretty nasty lacrosse injury  in our gold medal game at the Club European Championships. After what felt like forever rehabbing my foot and ankle, I was lucky enough to get the go ahead from my physio and coach to sign up to what has been a dream of mine over the last few years - a full distance Ironman - or as my friends have rebranded it - IronWOman!

I've had many people asking me why (on earth!!) I am taking on this Ironman which is made up of a: 3.8km swim, 180km bike and 42.2km run. In all honesty, many of the reasons are to do with the personal challenge of simply wanting to see just what I can make my mind and body do, and to prove that the comeback from injury can make you forget the setback and all the mental battles that came with it.

But as I enter the last weeks of training, I feel like there should be a greater reason behind enduring all of these hours.The Samaritans is an incredible charity and one that is dedicated to helping the mental battle going on for so many. Trained specialists and in my eyes, real life angels, answer phone calls from those in the most mentally vulnerable situations. Their amazing ability to listen and navigate the most difficult conversations can sometimes be life saving.
