Chiltern Challenge 2022 · 24 September 2022 ·

(BHECCS) volunteer Critical Care Paramedics and Doctors help save lives across our region. Our dedicated team of volunteer Doctors and Critical Care Paramedics make themselves available throughout the year, selflessly giving up their time to help those who suffer critical illness

Story

Steve and Sam, 2 paramedics from the BHECCS critical care scheme, are walking 25km each as part of the fundraising efforts for the charity. They are doing this as part of the Chiltern ultra challenge, organised for people who want to hike and raise money for charities. Steve and Sam both enjoy walking, and both love spending time walking their dogs, so what better way to raise money whilst walking...?

BHECCS volunteer clinicians are on-call in their free time to provide advanced medical and trauma care to patients who have suffered life-threatening injury or illness in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire. Activated by the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST), BHECCS volunteer clinicians respond using blue lights and siren in either their own vehicle from home, or in the dedicated scheme response car. BHECCS volunteers are highly trained pre-hospital clinicians who bring a wealth of experience to every patient in addition to carrying life-saving drugs, equipment and treatment not usually found on an emergency ambulance.
