On Thursday 19th March 2009 Biffer will perform a Scale-athon of the ABRSM standard scales on the Oboe (grade VII), Pianoforte (grade VI), Classical Guitar, and Harpsichord (grade VI), as listed under. The event will commence at 0900hrs and will continue until each of the prescribed scales has been performed to the satisfaction of the adjudicator (i.e. they must be fluent and without mistakes). A 10-minute break will be taken after each 50 minutes of performance.
Oboe
Scales: to be played slurred, legato-tongued and staccato in each of six separate and distinct rhythms.
F#, G, Ab, A majors, melodic minors and harmonic minors (a twelfth)
Bb, B, C, C#, D, Eb, E, F majors, melodic minors and harmonic minors (two octaves)
Arpeggios: the common chords of the above keys for the ranges indicated.
Chromatic scales:
A twelfth: F#, G, Ab, A
Two octaves: Bb, B, C, C#, D, Eb, E, F
Dominant sevenths: in the keys of Eb, E, F, F# and Ab (two octaves)
Diminished sevenths: starting on Bb, B and C (two octaves)
Pianoforte
