Story
I have decided to celebrate my birthday in style this year – the big 4-0! It is an important celebration for me, as only a few years ago I was uncertain whether I would make it this far. Having had a double cord blood transplant in 2016 after a diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, I am now grateful for every single birthday (and the days in-between) that I get to live life and watch my kids get older.
My diagnosis was pretty late in being detected (which is not uncommon for leukaemia), and by the time I was admitted the cancer was in 70% of my bone marrow. I also had a genetic mutation which meant the outlook for cure was pretty bleak. After an unsuccessful round of chemotherapy, my treatment regime was changed. My fantastic consultant Professor Charlie Craddock (and his wonderful team) at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, saved my life after being given a double cord blood transplant in November 2016. Stem cells taken from two umbilical cords from two babies in New York – amazing!!
BUT, there are so many patients that still need help. Each year in the UK alone there are around 40,000 new cases of different types of leukaemia. That’s where the charity Cure Leukaemia (CL) come in.
So, my birthday wish this year would be to raise some money for this wonderful charity so that they can continue to support patients with blood cancers and accelerate new treatments to patients that often have no other option to follow. Members of my family (led by my incredible niece Sophie) have been working to get as many raffle prizes as possible, and we have had some fabulous donations. See below for what you could win!

You are able to purchase tickets (£5 minimum for one ticket), but please donate as much as you are able! As this is a raffle, you will not be eligible for gift aid. Draw will take place on 1st June 2020 (Random selection).
