Marie Curie Hospice, Cardiff and the Vale provides expert care, guidance and support to people living with a terminal illness and their families

Story

In November 2010 my husband Timothy Hunter spent his final few days in our local Marie Curie Hospice where they made him comfortable and brought his pain relief under control. He'd lost all his hair a few days before due to the affects of chemotherapy and enjoyed watching the fireworks across the Severn Estuary during his first night at the hospice. I've chosen this date to remember him for that reason and losing my hair is probably a greater challenge in some ways than my trek to Machu Picchu was a few years ago. The recent Pandemic has meant Marie Curie is facing a devastating loss of funds with all fundraising activities on hold, so I feel this is the perfect time for this challenge.

Marie Curie nurses, doctors, therapists and social workers provide expert care and support both to the people staying with them at the hospice, and in the local community. Each day at the hospice is special. By getting to know people as individuals, they help them do what is important to them whether that's getting out into the hospice garden to enjoy the views across the sea, having a beloved pet come to visit or sharing precious moments with their loved ones. They need to raise £8,311 per day to run the hospice, so every penny counts. Thank you for helping to make sure more people with a terminal illness in Cardiff and the Vale get the care and support they need.
