Story
Sadly my mother in law passed away a few weeks ago having suffered from Alzheimers for many years. With more and more people contracting dementia, of all ages and from all backgrounds, I decided along with Hugh, a grandson of Brigid, to try and raise some money to help the research into and the fight against dementia. We are cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats starting on Sunday May 31st….a total of 1,030 miles in 10 days and total ascent over the ride of 65,000 feet (more than twice the height of Mount Everest). Rather than pay to take part in an organised event I have planned an independent ride, choosing the route and booking accommodation along the way. Other than some family riding many years ago I have never been a cyclist of any standing and therefore have had to work very hard covering over 4,000 miles during the winter and spring months to get into shape for what will be an exciting, demanding and no doubt painful experience…..BUT hopefully for a very good cause both in memory of my mother in law and also to contribute in some small way towards the effort to both understand and combat dementia in the future.
I have created a blog, www.bikerideforbrigid.com/ , and will be updating it throughout our adventure should you wish to read it.
