West Highland Way Charity Cycle · 6 February 2023
In September we will be cycling the West Highland Way in memory of Gemma's friend Rab who sadly passed away last year. He was a keen cyclist and completed the West Highland way by bike in record time a few years ago. He was also passionate about helping others.
Additionally, we have chosen a mental health charity in memory of Gemma's brother in law who tragically took his own life. Hopefully we can make a difference by helping Tiny Changes in their mission, which you can read more about at the bottom.
My own dad committed suicide when I was very young so improving mental health is a cause I hold close to my own heart.
The West Highland Way is a 96 mile route starting near Glasgow and ending in Fort William. It attracts thousands of walkers each year, who usually take about a week to finish it. We will be mountainbiking this route in 3 days, which will be a big challenge, as the terrain can be unforgiving and it passes through some very remote parts of Scotland.
"Scott Hutchison, singer in the band Frightened Rabbit, died by suicide in May 2018. Since then, his family have been campaigning to improve mental health amongst children and young people in Scotland.Tiny Changes (SC049112) aims to further that cause by funding projects and events that support affected people and advance research, and also by raising awareness and influencing policy. There is a crisis in young people's mental health in Scotland and it is getting worse. The next generation needs your help now."
