Story
Hi everyone,
Me again, I ran a half marathon back in October 2022 and it’s time to run the second half.
I’ve signed up to run the LLHM in April to raise money for a charity I owe my life too - Anthony Nolan. Thanks to AN and the amazing team of doctors, Nurses and amazing staff at UCLH I’ve now been in remission for six years (seven on 1st February 2026).
Here’s a brief history:
In October 2017, I suddenly felt very unwell and quickly developed cancer. It was a rare form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. After several rounds of chemotherapy, a scan showed I was in remission. Unfortunately, this didn’t last long and the cancer relapsed. Next, I underwent immunotherapy to get me back into remission for an autologous stem cell transplant. This involved another round of chemotherapy before using my own stem cells to regain remission. This was temporarily successful, but the cancer relapsed again. This is when Anthony Nolan came in.
It became clear that my best chance of a good remission was an allogenic stem cell transplant. Fortunately, Anthony Nolan found me a match very quickly. This meant more chemotherapy to completely kill the cancer and lower my immune system to allow me to receive the donor’s stem cells. Then, in February 2019, after another long hospital stay, the new stem cells began working and I’m happy to say they’ve been working wonders ever since.
Since my successful SCT, I have been fortunate enough to continue living my life and made more memories that’ll last a lifetime, this is all only possible because of the great work AN do. 💚
