Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As most of you know, I have MS and by using the Nottingham Oxygen Centre (NOC), [aka. home of the MS Therapy Centre] I’m still able to live a normal(ish) life. As a positive person, I prefer to look at what I can do, rather than what I can’t. I still control my MS rather than the other way around. I manage this by having a fantastic network of family and friends, a positive mental attitude (PMA), various drugs and the thing that has made the most difference, my oxygen treatment (HBO or Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in case you wanted to know what it means).
This means I can still go to work and earn a living, have trips out with Rosie and Freya for coffee and cake, (un)fortunately still go to Meadow Lane and follow the MIGHTY PIES, and of course, I'm still able to ride my scooter and go on rallies. If I didn’t have my regular oxygen and this place didn’t exist, I wouldn’t be able to do any of the above. BUT they do and I do which means I CAN.
However, the NOC receives NO government funding and is paid for partly by membership and charitable fundraising. I’ve wanted to give something back and do a sponsored event for some time. But what can a chap do, when he can’t do that much. I can't run a marathon, or walk a long distance, but I can still swim ok(ish). When we were on holiday, I tried to swim a length of the pool at the Cleethorpes Haven site. Its length is about the same as the width of our local pool in Bingham. I barely made one length.
As I also wanted to get a bit fitter, Rosie suggested that I start going swimming on Sundays, so I did. I can now just about swim 40 lengths and that’s when the idea of a sponsored swim for the NOC was born. But I wanted to push myself a bit, so I’ve set myself a target of doing 50 lengths in two hours.
So please, please sponsor me and help me reach my target of £500.00, this money WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!
