Story
Ahead of the home game against Watford on Friday 26 April, The Birch will embark on his annual 90-minute run around the King Power Stadium pitch – a challenge that has helped him raise over £1million for charity over the last four decades.
But despite becoming a ‘platinum fundraiser’ during last year’s One In A Million campaign, the Birch has lost none of his appetite for clocking up the miles in aid of the LCFC Foxes Foundation.
“Every year I wonder whether I’ll be up to another run, but once again the support of the Leicester City fans has convinced me to do it,” said Birch, 67.
“It might turn into more of a walk than a run this year, but we’ll be out there again raising much-needed funds for more worthy causes.
“We’ve always been able to count on the support of the Leicester City fans in previous years and I’m sure this year they will give as generously as they always have.”
All profits from Birch’s Run will go to the LCFC Foxes Foundation, which, during 2012/13, is principally raising money for:
The Lord Mayor of Leicester’s Stroke Appeal
The Silver Star Diabetes Appeal
Family support charity Home-Start
The Alzheimer’s Society – supporting Leicestershire services
The Foundation for the Welfare of the Mentally Ill Children of Thailand.
In addition, the Foundation will dedicate a part of this season’s total to the provision of 10 potentially life-saving defibrillators in key areas throughout the county, working with East Midlands Ambulance Services to identify the most effective areas.
The LCFC Foxes Foundation is also endorsing the work of The Moodie Report Foundation, whose international fundraising efforts for cancer charities worldwide will include donations to the Our Space Appeal at Leicester Royal Infirmary.
