Story
I'm taking part in the October Dog Walking Challenge to support families facing dementia. Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nurse charity. Their nurses, called Admiral Nurses, provide life-changing care to families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimers disease. They help people with dementia stay independent for longer, and support the people caring for them so they have the strength to cope with the bad days, and the energy to enjoy the good days.
In July I adopted a 12 year old Yorkshire Terrier called Rusty. His human mum had died and his human dad suffered from dementia and had to go into a home. Rusty was taken to the Vets to be put to sleep. Cut a long story short he was lucky and is now a member of our family. He has lots of energy, loves his walks and despite his age he will manage 100km in October.
We are doing this walk in memory of my mum who died of vascular dementia a couple of years ago and also for Rusty’s dad in the care home. Your support is very much appreciated.
