SMASH helps young people create good memories, improve their decision-making, gain a sense of self worth and help them see a brighter future. Instilling hope in them improves their overall sense of well-being. They see a future where they can play a role and contribute to their local community.

Story

As you know I am a slightly rotund man, okay, maybe a bit
more than slightly…

I am an 18 stone guy who enjoys a pint of beer, a nice glass
of red wine and watching TV on the couch.

Then one day I got involved with SMASH. SMASH is a youth
mentoring charity and meeting the kids who benefited from mentoring and whose lives are being turned around inspired me.

I was inspired to run, not just a little bit, a lot. A real
lot. That is 4 runs a week, including hill sprints, park runs, half marathons and training runs of 20 miles that have me running for over 3 and a half hours.

I was also inspired to stop drinking, not just cut back, but
stopping drinking alcohol entirely. That meant no beers while watching rugby, no wine with dinner, not even a port after lunch at Christmas.

The point of these efforts and sacrifices is towards one
aim, to run a marathon. On the 10th April I will be running Manchester marathon. Doing this will be, without a doubt, the greatest physical achievement of my life and I’d really appreciate it if you could sponsor me in this endeavour.
