What?
I am running the DC Rock ‘n’ Roll half marathon on 10th of March to raise funds for PestalozziWorld. PestalozziWorld is an international
educational charity that provides school education to needy but talented children from some of the poorest regions in Africa (from Zambia and Malawi) and Asia (from Nepal, Tibet, and India). Its educational approach focuses on developing children into well balanced and responsible adults by fostering their "Head, Heart and Hands" - that is, academic knowledge, moral and social awareness, and vocational skills.
Why – why PestalozziWorld?
I was one of the fortunate ones to be supported by the organization. It would be an understatement to say that my life has been transformed because of PestalozziWorld. As a son of farming parents from one of the rural districts in Western Nepal, I probably would have never made my way much further beyond my village, let alone to some of the World’s most prestigious institutions like Harvard, Princeton, and the World Bank. As I have shared with some of my friends and colleagues, my parents cannot even comprehend what it is like for someone to be at these institutions or to have the opportunities that I have had at these places. They are happy that I am doing well, and that I am able to help them and my four siblings when needed. They take pride in the fact that everyone in my village looks up to me as a role model, and an example of the positive impact education can have on one's life.
I feel incredibly fortunate that PestalozziWorld decided to help me with my schooling. I say “fortunate” because I know there are thousands of children across the World who are talented but often do not get proper schooling. I am also eternally grateful to many other institutions and people who have helped me in my educational journey so far. However, it was PestalozziWorld that provided me that initial “foot in the door”.
