BL Pride Alliance - 1972 Challenge · 16 June 2020

We are the LGBT+ young people’s charity. We work with 7,000+ UK schools, supporting them to embed LGBT+ inclusion into their communities. We also directly support LGBT+ young people to find community, feel empowered to lead change, and have the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to succeed.

Story

In 1972, the first official UK Pride Rally was held. Only 2,000 people turned up due to fears of public shaming and arrest. There was no commercial sponsorship and the media mostly ignored its existence.

Since 1972, Pride has grown into a festival celebration and last year millions of people marched together for equality at Pride celebrations throughout the UK.

2020 will be the first year since 1972, that the UK-wide marches cannot go ahead. Instead, the BL Pride Alliance are collectively walking, running, cycling or crawling a total of 1,972 Km during July, to raise money for Just Like Us (JLU).

JLU is a charity who work hard to create a world where LGBT+ young people live awesome lives. For many, being at home without school or the workplace can feel very isolating, but JLU are still with them. #JLUatHome
