Story

Hello!

Thanks for visiting the teams JustGiving Page! Let us tell you more about us and what we're fundraising for...

We're a team of firefighters who all work for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service undertaking a 24 Hour Running Challenge to raise money for The Fire Fighters Charity.

This is a an amazing cause close to our hearts, having seen the great work they do with friends and colleagues of the UK’s fire services community; with several of the team having been directly supported by the charity. This year has been particularly hard as many of the usual fundraising events the charity relies upon have been cancelled due to COVID-19.  We all want to do our bit and have put ourselves forward for this challenge in the hope of raising funds to ensure The Fire Fighters Charity can continue to offer invaluable mental, physical and social wellbeing support.

The Challenge...

As a team we'll be taking part in the 24HR Thunder Run. The challenge is to complete as many laps of the 10km course as possible in 24 Hours. Teams compete in a relay style with only one runner on the course at a time.

That means that individuals in the team could be running between 30-40km each!

* Challenge Update*

What a weekend! On the 24th - 25th  July the team took part in their Thunder Run 24HR challenge at Catton Park, Walton-on-Trent. Unfortunatley there were some last minute team changes due to illness and team members having to self-isolate. Andy, George and Mary were unable to join the rest of the team but spent the weekend cheering on and supporting them from home.

We were lucky enough to find family, friends and colleagues to step up and fill the gaps at the last minute. A massive thanks to Ian Upcott, Ian Cornwall and Laura Wilton, who are absolute legends in our eyes; they dropped everything at the last minute and came to run with the team!

There was a fantastic atmosphere at the event and the team worked brilliantly together and kept running for the whole 24 hours. The 10km trail route at Catton Park was challenging, with difficult terrain and plenty of ups and down to contend with. This was then made trickier once it got dark and the head torches came out as the team ran into the night and the early hours of the morning. Each team member ran at least 30km, with a couple pushing themselves and running 40km!

A gruelling 24 hours later… a total of 240km ran… tired and achy but crucially all in one piece…. the team completed the challenge, with Blazin Squad finishing 26th in the overall team standings!

A massive thank you to everyone who has donated and helped us go above and beyond our fundraising target. You kept us going when our feet started to hurt; when we had to get up for the graveyard shift; when we wanted to stop because our knees felt like they wanted to give way. We cannot thank you enough for your support!

*Self- Isolation Challenge*

Having been informed she had to self-isolate, Mary was absolutely gutted that she couldn’t join the team at the race event. Not wanting to waste her training and do her bit she managed to make the best of a bad situation and supported the team by running her 30km at home by doing laps of her garden.

About Donating...

This is a team fundraising page, so rather than collecting sponsorship as individuals we hope this will make it easier for those who know several members of the team who want to support us. Hopefully we'll also be able to aim for a bigger fundraising target if we all work together!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thank you so much for your support and donation!
