Story

Hi,

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving Page.

As a creative, I sometimes struggle to articulate my sentiments, therefore I have created this bespoke piece of art to help me raise money to help tackle racism.

In the aftermath of George Floyd’s murder, all 50 US states and 18 countries have participated in #blacklivesmatter protests. People worldwide are uniting in solidarity, more than ever, in the fight against racism in all forms, and the active resistance to the dehumanization and devaluation of black lives.

It’s important we continue these conversations, dismantle systems which no longer serve and educate ourselves. We must be open to other people’s experiences. Education is key to change which is why I have chosen to fundraise for, the charity, Show Racism The Red Card.

The Charity:

Show Racism The Red Card is an anti-racism educational charity working extensively across the UK. They combat racism through enabling role models, who are predominately but not exclusively footballers, to present an anti-racist message to young people. Their educational resources and activities encourage people to challenge racism, misconceptions, stereotypes and negative attitudes in society.

How does this work?

By donating money to this cause, this automatically enters you into a raffle to win the bespoke A2 original watercolour piece named, ‘The Butterfly of Solidarity & Change’, which I have painted especially.

This piece of art is created on fine quality art paper with vegan and cruelty- free art materials and includes:

  • A Certificate of Authenticity – it's a one-of-a-kind original piece
  • Protective packaging which is biodegradable/recyclable
  • Signed and recorded delivery in the U.K
  • *Artwork does not come framed.

The meaning behind this piece:

Butterflies are deep and powerful representations of life with many cultures seeing them as a symbol of endurance, change and hope. They’re a powerful symbol of transformation. I have created this piece to encapsulate meaning and symbolise the transformative power of using your voice in the fight for change and racial equality.

It’s also created in memory of George Floyd and every other individual, worldwide, who has fallen victim and lost their lives to racism.

The butterfly leaves the safety of its cocoon in its new form – an excellent analogy for looking within ourselves for change; breaking down and excavating our own racial biases to allow positive change, growth and new beginnings.

I’ve also incorporated the raised fist within its wings to symbolise the freedom which comes from solidarity and supporting one another.

When will the winner be announced?

I will reveal the winner of the auction in 3 week’s time on the 28th of June at 5 pm on my social media.

Please follow @life.without.meat and @gmg.creative on Instagram & Facebook to stay updated.

This will be done by randomly picking out a name from the entries to claim the ownership of this piece and celebrate the money raised for Show Racism The Red Card. Please make sure to include your contact details so I can reach you if you win.

Let's join together in this fight against racism. Every donation will help!

Thank you,

Georgia x
