At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

From Monday 21st March, B&M Care will take on yet another group challenge – a Cycle Relay.

Pedalling until Friday 1st April, B&M Care has set staff, residents, and their family and friends the task of collectively cycling towards a goal of completing 3,000 miles – that’s almost the distance from London to Athens (and back again!).

The challenge can be completed individually or, in the case of our homes, as a part of an organised event. Ideas include:

Using a pedal exerciser (in the comfort of an armchair)

Getting to and from work

Recreational time on the road, in the country or at the gym

The Cycle Relay forms part of B&M Care's Wellbeing Week (21st - 25th March) in line with Marie Curie's National Day of Reflection on Wednesday 23rd March. The now annual observance marks the second anniversary since the first UK lockdown in 2020; an opportunity that promotes collective reflection and hope for a brighter future.

Aside from the obvious health and social benefits that simply getting up-and-about brings, B&M Care is using the initiative to raise valuable funds for the UK’s leading dementia charity, Alzheimer’s Society. From campaigning for change to funding research and supporting those directly affected by a diagnosis, Alzheimer’s Society remains at the forefront of “tackling dementia head on”, but as a result of the pandemic, its appeal for support has never been greater.
