B&M Care is raising money for Alzheimer's Society

Walk For Wellbeing · 15 July 2021

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

From Monday 2nd August, B&M Care will take on a month-long group-wide challenge – Walk For Wellbeing.

Running until Friday 3rd September, B&M Care has set staff, residents, and their family and friends the task of collectively stepping towards a goal of completing 3,280 miles – that’s almost the distance between London and New York!

Steps and mileage can be completed individually or, in the case of our homes, as a part of an organised event – and can be counted from a number of accessible activities including:

Walking

Jogging & Running

Cycling

Sports

Dancing

And even through exer-gaming, such as the Wii Fit

Using pedometers and other wearable fitness devices, steps will be converted into miles and then submitted every week to be displayed above on our mile-o-meter dashboard.

The goal of 3,280 miles was calculated based on the distance between each of our 26 care homes, including the group’s Head Office, and then multiplied by 10 to give the group a challenging ‘finish line’ figure.

Aside from the obvious health and social benefits that simply getting out-and-about brings, B&M Care is using the initiative to raise valuable funds for the UK’s leading dementia charity, Alzheimer’s Society. From campaigning for change to funding research and supporting those directly affected by a diagnosis, Alzheimer’s Society remains at the forefront of “tackling dementia head on”, but as a result of the pandemic, its appeal for support has never been greater.
