Tough Mudder · 12 May 2012 ·

We’re a leading national social enterprise, delivering health and social care support in substance use, mental health, sexual health and learning disability. With over 60 years’ experience, we support people with a range of complex challenges to improve their health and wellbeing.

Story

We are raising money for Home Run, a running club for the recently homeless or people battling against drug and alcohol addiction.

The Team

This is a group of people who think running around in the park and getting muddy with BMF is a great way to exercise. And the coffee break afterwards is pretty good too.

The Event

On 12th May, we will be taking part in Tough Mudder (http://toughmudder.co.uk/). An event which describes itself as "Probably the toughest event on the planet... Tough Mudder events are hardcore 12 mile-long obstacle courses designed by the Special Forces to test your all around strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie. With the most innovative courses and half a million inspiring participants, Tough Mudder is the premier adventure challenge series in the world."

It sounded like it might be "fun"... and because that didn't sound tough enough we're all running in school uniform.

The Cause

HomeRun is a running club for the “homeless”. Run by themselves, for themselves. It is a small but effective cog in the treatment and rehabilitation of a group of exceptional individuals. People brave enough to take up one of the biggest challenges of them all: changing their life. HomeRun not only gives them the physiological and psychological benefits of exercise, but a mentality to take up a goal, rise to a challenge and succeed in doing it. Events such 10k races, the 3 peak challenge have been faced and crushed.  The life changes of those achieving sometimes truly amazing. The money we raise will be managed by Turning Point in conjunction with the HomeRun members.
