Help us raise funds for Blind Veterans UK
The British Modern Military History Society BMMHS holds monthly talks on military history in Oxfordshire, but since COVID the talks have moved to twice monthly Zoom talks. Our talks by historians, authors and former military personnel cover mainly 20th century history and we make a donation to military charity from each talk.
In addition to our book Glimpses of War, which is already helping to raise funds for Blind Veterans UK (established in 1915 as St Dunstan's) we wish to further raise funds as they support over 4500 blind veterans across the UK providing vital support, rehabilitation, training and equipment that enables them to rebuild independent and fulfilling lives after sight loss.
However, with the increasing age of their blind veterans and with the impacts of COVID-19, it has become increasingly difficult to provide remote support to these individuals.
Isolation amongst the elderly and visually impaired is an issue that communities across the UK are struggling to resolve and so help us raise funds for the Blind Veterans UK National Creative Project.
BMMHS is raising funds for this project to help to provide creative training sessions such as painting, drawing and writing which can be delivered to blind veterans within their own homes via the internet.
This will help bring these veterans together through such courses as for example photography, knitting, singing, creative writing and painting via the internet. This will help reduce loneliness and the feeling of isolation which is so important in these times of COVID.
The money we raise will be used to provide the equipment and materials that will enable blind veterans to access and participate in this very worthwhile project.
