Plymouth Half Marathon · 30 May 2010
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
So why, I hear you cry, is this overweight, asthmatic, knackered, well over forty something, going to run the Plymouth (and his first ever) Half Marathon? Is he as mad as we all suspect? Well let me answer these points.
Why? It's to raise money for Help for Heroes. Help for Heroes (H4H) was founded by Bryn and Emma Parry after a profoundly moving visit to Selly Oak Hospital in the summer of 2007. Bryn and Emma met some extraordinarily brave young people who had been badly wounded and they just wanted to do something to help. So do I!
Why? In memory of my Dad, Ernie, who passed away on 17 April 2009 aged 88. Dad served the country in one guise or another for forty-eight years, including thirteen years (1937-1950) as a Royal Marines Commando. He went through the whole of WWII without injury. Help for Heroes helps those who, in current conflicts, are not so fortunate.
Why? Because if a young serviceman can still motivate himself to stand on a parade ground to receive his medals after loosing both legs and an arm, what excuse have I got not to get up off my lazy backside and do something positive?
Enough said. Here’s the important bit:
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please, dig as deep as you can and help support these incredible people. Thank you.
