Charlotte, Anthony, Eamon, Edward, Francesca, Jessica, Niall, Tara and Sarah will be climbing Ben Nevis in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic condition which causes sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive system. It affects more than 10,800 people in the UK. One in 25 of us carries the faulty gene that causes it, usually without knowing. Cystic fibrosis comes with challenges, affecting our physical health, mental wellbeing and how we choose to live our lives. But our community is uniting towards the ultimate goal of effective treatment for all. Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the charity uniting people to stop cystic fibrosis.

2020 was a bad year for most people, we were living through a pandemic, however in May that year my (Charlotte's) life took a dramatic turn.

I had a major haemorrhage and my life was in the balance. However, after a turbulent year I bounced back with the help a lot of medication and work.

Going from being fine, to being placed on the urgent lung transplant list, to getting a false alarm call, I didn't know what to think or do. However, it was after my false alarm the hospital discovered I have sticky blood syndrome and an MRI confirmed I'd had strokes. This made a transplant very complicated. After lots of discussions with different hospitals, teams and departments it was decided this was no longer safe option. My heart was relieved and broken all at the same time. I knew I needed to work harder than ever before to keep well. I started trying to exercise with a lot of difficulty and eat lots of food after nearly losing 2 stone. I started to feel stronger when Kaftrio came along! It changed my life and my lung function improved by 40%. I now eat well and exercise 5 times a week. I am a new me, but this is not a cure so we need to keep fighting for it and all research that goes with it.

So I am trekking Ben Nevis to raise money and help as many people as I can because without the vital funds I would not be here!
