Bondoc’s Sky Dive for GOSH · 19 December 2021

We are Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity. We stop at nothing to help give seriously ill children childhoods that are fuller, funner and longer. Because we believe no childhood should be lost to illness.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our Just Giving Page.

After a tough year for the Bondoc family, we have seen true resilience and strength when facing incredibly challenging events. This year we have learnt that life is too short, to enjoy the now and to always give it your all.

So after being gifted a sky dive for his 40th, Bondoc will be facing his fears by jumping out of a plane, hopefully with a parachute, to raise money for the amazing Great Ormond Street Hospital for children for all the help they've given to the family. Not one to go it alone, John will be accompanied by his right hand men, Ed and Cai who are equally quacking in their boots, but are keen to help raise some money for such a great cause.

So please dive into your pockets and give what you can for this incredible cause.

Here is Carson's Story, written by his mum Pam...

Our son Carson Dabasia is nine years old and was previously a fit and well boy who went to school and enjoyed playing sports.

On October 12, 2021 Carson was referred to St. Mary’s Hospital after presenting some swelling and 2 lumps on his right arm. We were not expecting or prepared for what would unfold from then. A CT angiogram of his abdomen and right arm was performed, with multiple aneurysms seen, including right and left renal artery aneurysms and a large infrarenal Aortic-aneurysm. An emergency transfer to Great Ormond Street Hospital was arranged for further investigation.

October 14th; Carson was admitted under the rheumatology team initially with an inflammatory vasculitic underlying cause suspected specifically Takayasu arteritis. An imaging of Carson’s brain had also demonstrated some aneurysms that the neurosurgical team have reviewed and have suggested expectant management of these at present as intervention would be extremely high risk.

October 19th; Carson experienced severe back pain and there was concern about rupturing or impending rupture of the large aortic aneurysm. Our son was taken to emergency theatre by vascular surgeons and underwent emergency repair of the aneurysms in his Aorta and renal artery aneurysms which meant the removal of both our sons kidneys. It was the toughest six hours of our lives and the hardest pill to swallow. After a successful surgery Carson spent six days in intensive care which was heartbreakingly painful to see.

Post op with no kidneys, Carson has to undergo dialysis treatment three times a week for four hours each time until we are able to find a compatible kidney donor. Due to a suspected graft infection antimicrobial treatment was recommended. He was on three high spectrum life-saving antibiotics for six weeks to clear infection which had caused a spike in his temperature. In this time Carson‘s hearing, little did we know, was slowly deteriorating.

It has been confirmed that Carson is now profoundly deaf and hearing aids are not an option. In a short space of time Carson's life and our life as a family has changed drastically. It’s been the toughest two months for our family and for myself as a mother to see my child suffer and loose soo much.
My heart aches every day, crying and constantly worrying for my son’s health. Carson has a very very rare condition unknown to the medical profession.
To date he continues to be cared for at Great Ormond Street Hospital by amazing health professionals, whom we are truly grateful to.
