Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

Hello, I (Boniswa) will be cycling around the Isle of Wight to fundraise a few quid for the Anglican charity USPG. The cycle will be on August 6th and will be achieved in one day; with the support of some friends and family who will be joining me!

So far the IOW Crew who will be cycling with me are Richard Atcherley, Nicholas Van Venrooij, Robin Drummond, James Asker, Catherine Pickering and Chris Young.

USPG works worldwide – from Argentina to Zambia. They work in partnership with local churches, enabling communities to find their own solutions to the challenges they face. In practice this can mean providing education, healthcare, leadership training, development initiatives and much more.

So, although I am not a proclaiming Christian, BigUp respect for USPG’s generosity and thought for humanity, which is why I have chosen and trust greatly their work.

In particular, your online donations will go towards a project that USPG is supporting in Botswana that is helping children orphaned by HIV. Many of these children live in child-headed households, and some are excluded from society because of the stigma attached to HIV in some places. The project I’m supporting is St Peter’s Day Centre, which provides a place for learning and play and monitors the children’s health. Counselling and support is given to help children cope with the loss of one or both parents. The centre also teaches caregivers about hygiene, nutrition and children’s rights.

I myself am doing a personal fundraise offline to raise money for a 6-month volunteer exchange programme in October (2011). I have very recently met with the Bishop of Botswana and have been placed voluteering in a Hospice set up by a Swedish Doctor 10+ years ago. In this Hospice I will be caring for all ages suffering with muliple illness's and ailments, particularly those with HIV and pallative care needs. I will be a witness to some of the amazing work that USPG supports and will come back with much insight.

Don’t even hesitate: just give! Every pound counts, whether £2 or a few pounds more (I’d much rather it was more, as would the chaps in Botswana!).

Thank you for taking the time to read my essay. I promise you it will be worth it. To GIVE is a generosity certainly worth doing!
