Bonnie's 100km Ultra Lake District Challenge 10th June

Lake District Challenge 2023 · 10 June 2023 to 11 June 2023 ·
My daughter Sophie was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome in December 2020. Sophie was originally diagnosed with Autism but my gut instinct was telling me there was more to it. After years of hospital appointments and tests we got the devastating news that it was Rett Syndrome.
Sophie is 10 years old and she should be doing what any other typical 10 year old is doing - going out with friends, enjoying sleepovers and running around with her brother and sister. Instead I’m watching Sophie lose the ability to walk, talk, communicate, the use of her hands and suffering from epileptic seizures. She recently had an operation for a gastrostomy as she was unable to eat properly.
Sophie needs constant support with everything and it breaks my heart everyday. What keeps me going is Sophie’s infectious smile, her cheeky wee personality and how no matter what gets thrown at her she just gets on with it. Everyone that meets Sophie just falls in love with her. She’s amazing and melts our hearts.
I am doing this challenge to help raise money for Reverse Rett who are a research organisation working to deliver treatments and a cure for Rett Syndrome. Gene therapy trials are starting to happen which would make Sophie’s life so much easier.
100km Trek is nothing compared to what Sophie goes through day in day out, any donation that you could spare would be amazing. This would help Sophie and others affected with Rett Syndrome have an easier life!
Thank You
Bonnie and Sophie xx
