Today's cover photo is of our lovely new park cafe - now open 7 days a week 9 - 4 (from 8 am on Saturdays). Pop in for a coffee, you're very welcome! :) You can find out all about the cafe on its very own Facebook page @boulthamparkcafe.
Linkage students are now enjoying the fantastic new facilities at Boultham Park, both in the education centre and the glasshouse - the first seedlings have germinated! The stunning main gates of the park have gone away to Lost Art, the specialist restoration company that did such wonderful job on the Victorian bandstand, and we can't wait to see them back in place, in their fully restored splendour.
Our successful fundraising appeal has now to raise less than £100,000 in this final year of the project. Please help us on this last lap!
Boultham Park Restoration Project is an incredibly exciting project for Linkage, the learning disability charity, here in Lincoln and has provided a brand new education centre for Linkage College in the former stable block of Boultham Hall, a bright and welcoming café for the local community and visitors to the park, and a kitchen garden and glasshouse that will in time supply bedding plants, hanging baskets and salad for the cafe. Absolutely all of these new facilities provide unique learning, training and employment opportunities for people with learning disabilities and are now open to students!
The park itself has received much attention to enhance the features (gates and bridges refurbished) and natural areas (historic vistas have been opened up) and there is an established programme of activities taking place involving local residents and volunteers - for example check out the Summer Games: the Mini Explorers group for toddlers (and their parents) which focuses on the wildlife of the park, and don't forget parkrun which sees hundreds of people getting physical in the park every Saturday :)
Linkage and the City of Lincoln Council are continuing to work closely together to bring this major project to final fruition and our thanks go to contractor Casey Group who have worked very hard to bring our plans to reality. We are absolutely delighted that the project is receiving major funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery's Parks for People initiative - but as ever, more is needed! It is our responsibility to 'match' this £2.7million grant and our successful Capital Appeal has now to raise less than £100,000. It would be fantastic if you could help us to reach our target - thank you! Every pound donated makes a difference and will be very well used.
