Today's cover photo is of our beautifully restored Victorian bandstand, which has received fantastic tender loving care from Lost Art, a specialist restoration company. The crazy paving in the fountain garden is looking much smarter, too as all of the many and varied exacting tasks are carried out by craftsmen.
There are still just a few tickets left for the Bubble 5k - a fun, bubbly extravaganza on August 27th where almost 1,000 have signed up to walk, run and dance through the bubbles and the sponsorship that they raise will go straight into supporting this restoration project. What a brilliant day that is going to be! Look out for the photos . . .
Boultham Park Restoration Project is an incredibly exciting project for Linkage Community Trust here in Lincoln and means not only the restoration and enhancement of this beautiful park but also a brand new education centre in the former stable block of Boultham Hall, a bright and welcoming café for the local community and visitors to the park, and a kitchen garden and glasshouse. All of these new facilities will also importantly provide unique learning, training and employment opportunities for people with learning disabilities and will be complete and open to students this Autumn!
The park itself has already received much attention to enhance the features (gates and bridges refurbished) and natural areas (historic vistas have been opened up) and there is an established programme of activities taking place involving local residents and volunteers - for example check out the Summer Games: the Mini Explorers group for toddlers (and their parents) which focuses on the wildlife of the park, and don't forget parkrun which sees hundreds of people getting physical in the park every Saturday :)
Linkage and the City of Lincoln Council are working closely together to make this project happen and our friendly contractor Casey Group are working hard on site to bring our plans to reality. We are absolutely delighted that the project is receiving major funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery's Parks for People initiative - but as ever, more is needed! It is our responsibility to 'match' this £2.7million grant and our successful Capital Appeal now has only to raise the final £100,000. Every pound donated makes a difference and will be very well used.
