Over the past few years my journey with heart surgery has been long and challenging. My first surgery didn’t go as planned, and the road that followed included a second, third, fourth, fifth… and eventually a seventh operation.

Throughout it all, the British Heart Foundation were there. Not just as a charity doing research, but as people who genuinely cared. When my first surgery failed, they supported me through counselling. After every stage they checked in, making sure I was coping and that I wasn’t facing it alone.

Even after my seventh surgery, when I was signed off because there’s currently nothing more they can do, they still reached out with a card filled with kindness, strength and understanding. That meant more than I can explain.

I’m incredibly grateful for the support they gave me during some of the hardest moments of my life. Now I’d love to give something back.
