Tackle Hunger - Souper Bowl of Caring 2022 · 9 January 2022

SHIM relies on generous community members to support critical programming. We know our neighbors love to help, and peer-to-peer fundraising is a great way to involve your friends and family in a donation drive for SHIM!

Story

We invite you to join Bower Hill Youth to tackle hunger in our 2022 Souper Bowl of Caring.  The “Souper Bowl of Caring” is an annual event that is national in scope, yet local in impact.  Imagine our impact if everyone tuning into the Super Bowl donates just one dollar!   All donations will benefit South Hills Interfaith Movement.

SHIM serves 2,500 individuals monthly through three food pantries in Bethel Park, Whitehall, and Baldwin. During the pandemic SHIM saw a 41% rise in need, with over 5,000 new individuals attending for the first time. Half of pantry participants are refugee/immigrant families, 35% are children, and 15% are age 60+.

SHIM purchases 70% of the food that is distributed at our pantries. With 500% buying power at the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, that means every $1 can buy $5 worth of groceries.
