Story

*Trigger warning - baby loss*

I am running the Plymouth half marathon 2026 for Pregnancy Crisis Care.

This incredible service supported us through the loss of our Son, Finlay.

After multiple miscarriages, we were delighted to find out we were pregnant with our baby boy. Sadly, that joy would not last as scans revealed him to have severe hypoplastic left heart syndrome, incompatible with life. He was also diagnosed with Trisomy 18 which, for him, was a life-limiting chromosomal disorder.

We were devastated to say goodbye on 15th March 2024. My world collapsed.

This is when I turned to Pregnancy Crisis Care. They are a Plymouth-based charity helping women and their partners with any pregnancy-related crisis by providing confidential, impartial support and counselling. It is free of charge and solely reliant on donations and grants.

Here, I met Sarah, our counsellor. She provided us with a safe space to communicate effectively and openly grieve. She gave us tools to navigate intense and debilitating emotions. She listened at a time when, for us, life stood still. She supported without judgement. She was the light in total darkness. She made me realise that, in time, I could live alongside my grief and smile without guilt.

Baby loss, no matter what stage, is a very lonely place to be. Without Sarah's care, support and guidance and that of my wonderful family and close circle of very special friends, I don't think I'd have risen again or have had the confidence to try again. At 42yrs, I didn’t feel I had many more chances.

Delightfully, we welcomed our son Gunnar in August last year. Sarah also helped us navigate the intense anxiety of pregnancy after loss. She’s been there every step of the way.

Today, Sarah is a valued friend. I like to talk about Fin often and he is part of our lives every day. It’s been a long road but I am now able to smile, laugh and enjoy life. Two years ago, that seemed impossible.

Pregnancy Crisis Care saved me. It has saved many others. I am committed to raising money for this incredibly valuable charity as is the wonderful team I am a part of - all of whom have their own experience of loss and the vital part Pregnancy Crisis Care has played in their journey. Please give as generously as you can.

Thank you very much xxx
