Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Due to my sister having breast cancer, I was having mammograms early, back in November 2023 a mammogram showed abnormalities in my right breast. A biopsy revealed that I had pre-cancerous cells; around six weeks later I underwent an operation to remove the cells.
The breast care team at the Royal Devon and Exeter hospital decided that a genetic test would be required to determine what my treatment would be going forward. The genetic test process was lengthy, but it identified I had a faulty CHEK 2 gene resulting in a 38% chance of developing breast cancer over my lifetime; the recommendation from my breast surgeon was to undergo a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.
In May 2024, I had the double mastectomy and my breasts rebuilt, it has been a long and difficult recovery at times, but I cannot have more praise and admiration for the breast surgery and care team at the Royal Devon and Exeter hospital.
Not only am I running the half marathon for Force to raise money for the work that they do supporting those with a cancer diagnosis and their families, but I am also running it for my sister who lost her battle with breast cancer in December 2024, a devastating end to a very difficult year for myself and family.
This will be only the second time that I have run the half marathon distance, Running doesn't come easy to me, so this will be a genuine challenge, please donate whatever you can.
