Thank you so much for stopping by and for considering supporting a cause that is incredibly close to my heart. If you know me, you'll already know two things: how much I care about the work of Da’aro Youth Project... and that running 10K is definitely not my natural habitat! So this really is a labour of love.

Da’aro Youth Project was born out of heartbreak. Between 2017 and 2018, several young Eritrean refugees and asylum seekers tragically died by suicide. Having fled conflict, persecution and unimaginable hardship, these young people arrived in the UK carrying the weight of trauma, only to face new challenges of isolation, uncertainty and trying to build a life in an unfamiliar place.

In response, members of the Eritrean community came together to create Da’aro Youth Project—a community-led organisation dedicated to supporting unaccompanied young refugees and asylum seekers from across the Horn of Africa, including Eritrea, Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan and Somalia.

Today, Da’aro provides vital casework support, mentoring, life skills programmes and, perhaps most importantly, a sense of belonging. It is powered by incredible staff and volunteers who believe in the potential of every young person and are committed to helping them thrive, not just survive.

As the daughter of Eritrean migrants, this work resonates with me on a deeply personal level. I often think about how none of us chooses where we are born, and yet that simple fact can shape the opportunities, safety and support we have throughout our lives. I don't believe anyone's future should be determined by the birthplace lottery.
