Story

Who are we?

We are Elly and Janice, two best friends from London who are raising money to help the brain tumour charity Brainstrust.  This is a cause very close to our hearts having both had experiences that have shown us  the personal impact of the absolutely essential support that Brainstrust provides.

Why are we raising money?

Brainstrust is a small-but-mighty charity that does a huge amount for people diagnosed with a brain tumour.  The money you donate will enable them to provide information and support for people who are diagnosed with meningioma brain tumours.  This includes everything from symptom management to financial advice and helping patients to get a medical second opinion about their diagnosis.

The most common type of meningioma brain tumour (Grade I) is not usually malignant. The less common types (Grade II) can also act a bit more aggressively like cancers (Grade II).  They can also become cancerous (Grade III).   Even though most meningiomas are non-cancerous, patients can experience the same physical, cognitive and emotional symptoms associated with cancerous tumours and their medical treatment is the same.  But when it comes to support and advice, people with this type of tumour often fall between the cracks.

What have we raised so far?

We've raised almost £18,000 so far.  That's more than half way to our £30,000 target and we're so grateful! With the amount we've raised so far we've been able to provide Brainstrust with enough money to fund:

  • £1000 to help 100 people to attend a Brainstrust webinar or virtual meetup and feel part of a community that cares

  • £2000 to provide 100 hours of support via their 24/7 helpline

  • £2000 to build an updated website with a brand new information hub filled with help, advice and signposting for meningiomas

  • £4000 to send 100 brain boxes to newly diagnosed patients

  • £6000 for 20 people to get a second opinion in a private hospital

What are we doing to raise the £30,000 we need?

The short answer is A LOT!   Here are a few things we've done so far.

  1. 30 Miles for £30K challenge: 30 of our friends and family all over the world ran, walked, swam, climbed and surfed 1 sponsored mile each.  Together we raised an incredible £7,000!

  2. BTT Prize Draw: we ran a month long campaign with unbelievable prizes from Personal Training with a Team GB Olympic medalist, shirts signed by the England Rugby team, a holiday in a beautiful French country house. This took our tally to £16,000

  3. Brain Tumour A-Z: along the way we shared social media posts and interviews of with everything you need to know about brain tumours, how they affect us.  We also featured discussions with Brainstrust and related experts to help more people understand why giving your money to support this charity is so important.

  4. The Great Brain Tumour Twins ‘Friendraiser’: we're continuing to raise awareness by asking you to invite 3 of your friends to follow us and spread the word.

  5. The Party: To celebrate a year since we kicked off the campaign, we held a spectacular party to celebrate and thank all our supporters for their donations, help and encouragement.

  6. The Bake sale: We continue to run bake sales to fundraise for the campaign.  If you have a sweet tooth, this one's for you!

Help us smash our target by supporting our fundraising activities, so we can help Brainstrust to provide more vital support to help people like live well with a brain tumour.

Thank you!

Elly and Janice.
