Our journey started back in 2004 when Emma was diagnosed with a brain tumour. "You've got a brain tumour", those were the words Emma thought she would never hear, but like the other 10600 people each day that are diagnosed, this was the challenge Emma was faced with. Emma had emergency surgery and she was left unable to walk, talk or be the normal 12 year old girl she was. Luckily Emma recovered and won that battle but sadly over 5000 people do not get that opportunity. Throughout Emma's ordeal she was supported by her younger brother Oliver Bassett. Oliver spent his time helping his sister recover but still managed to fit in some time to annoy her!
Fast forward to 2011 and the story continues on a plane heading to New York. This is where Emma met her best friend (and future brain tumour supporter) Laura Thomson. Together they completed many challenges, maybe not always in the most sensible of ways, but they completed them together.
Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40 - this needs to change. A cure can't wait! With your help, we will one day live in a world where brain tumours are defeated.
