Story

2023 Update:

Three years have passed since undertaking my fundraising project for the Royal British Legion, called A Month to Remember.  As a trained actor, I decided to undertake the challenge of learning, reciting, filming and publishing 30 poems from the First World War, one for each day of November to coincide with Remembrance.

Whilst undertaking the project in 2020, I received so much support and positive feedback, for which I am extremely grateful.  I have been asked by friends, family, colleagues and members of the public to undertake a similar project for Remembrance this year.  Producing 30 poems in 2020 involved several weeks of planning, which was possible whilst in lockdown and with lots of time to spare.

This year, I have decided to re-share some of my favourite pieces from 2020, publishing them on the same channels as before - Facebook, Twitter (now 'X') and YouTube.  Alongside this, I will also produce a few new pieces to add to the collection.

The 2023 project will be taking place over the Remembrance period, between 6th-13th November.

I look forward to re-sharing with you these powerful poems and I hope you will enjoy the 2023 additions too.

Thank you for your time and, if you can, please make a donation to the Royal British Legion via this page and support all of the amazing work they do.

Original 2020 description:

As the year draws to a close and we begin to reflect on the events that have impacted us, it is important to remember the sacrifices many have made in the past to keep our country safe.

I am an actor currently based in Nottinghamshire and London.  As the current coronavirus restrictions have severely limited the amount of work within my industry, I have decided to use my passion for First World War literature for a good cause.  A Month to Remember is an online project which I hope will provide an opportunity for people to reflect as we enter the annual period of Remembrance.  For each day in November, I will film myself reciting a poem from the First World War and release it through various online platforms (Facebook, Twitter and YouTube) with a donation link to the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.

Due to the effects of coronavirus, many charities and institutions have faced insurmountable losses.  The Royal British Legion is no exception to this, and the funds which are raised through this project will all go towards the vital work they do to support our military personnel.  Fundraising this year to support the Poppy Appeal is a huge challenge under the current advice from the government, but I hope these online poetry readings will provide a unique opportunity for everyone to unite and reflect on the sacrifices of previous generations in a safe and virtual way.

Learning and filming thirty poems is a challenge which I am very excited to undertake.  In order to provide different perspectives of the war, I have chosen a wide selection of verses from various writers which will illustrate the different hardships they endured.

I hope you enjoy listening to these powerful poems and thank you for taking the time to visit my page.  If you are able to, please make a donation to the Royal British Legion.
