When we were told that another family member had ALS, the hope of my Dad's ALS being sporadic melted away quicker than snow in the spring. And unfortunately, my Aunt Sue's battle with ALS ended a few months ago, leaving our family with another loss to this disease and the confirmation that it was indeed familial ALS.

What does that mean for my family? And the rest of the Braun family? My Dad's brothers and sisters have a 50/50 chance of having ALS. It also means that my siblings and I also have a 50/50 chance of having the disease. And all of our children/grandchildren will also have a 50/50 chance of having ALS if the gene is passed on. The weight that this bears on people with Familial ALS in their lineage is tremendous. We wonder who else has the gene and will develop symptoms and when will it happen. And if we have the gene, will we pass it on to our children? And what if I don't get it but what if one of my siblings does? What can I do to help?

This is why research to find a cure is so important for our family and for thousands if not millions of families around the world waiting on Hope. Hope that one day there will be a Cure or effective treatments. And that is why we are encouraging friends and family to help us in fighting and fundraising to find a cure!

We will be walking as a family for 1 mile on Saturday to help spread awareness for ALS and to raise funds for research. Please help us by donating and/or walking with us!!
