In January 2015, I was diagnosed with a very common type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma but, it was uncommonly large and in a particularly inconvenient spot. To be honest, it was a bit of a surprise and things were not looking too good at the beginning, but beyond the smoke and mirrors of the lymphatic system, that cancer was all mouth and trousers and I needed to send it packing.
Now it’s just over three months down the line and I think I’m winning. My hair may have fallen out (even my eyelashes have disappeared) and my fingernails are stained black from the chemotherapy drugs but the lymphoma has apparently dissolved, I’m still alive and I’m still ready to rock!
It’s been a bit of a rough trip though and I am compelled to recognise the efforts of all of the experts and professionals who helped me along the way but in particular, I’m deeply grateful to Macmillan Cancer Support for keeping my mind in one piece – which is why I’m fundraising for them.
I’m a member of a band called Braver than Fiction. The guys I am in the band with have been so patient whilst I stumbled about in tumour land. They are helping to fundraise too – we’re all fundraising; come along and fundraise with us. I can guarantee that at some point there will be cake-related activity!Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
