Story

                        Brazil Horse Ride Charity Challenge

We did it!!!! Friday 15th May - Sunday 24th May 2009

Hello!

Welcome to our fundraising page our Brazil Horse Ride 2009!!!

As you may know Maxine and Katie both work for HospiceCare and have recently taken part in an amazing horse trek through rural Brazil to raise money for their charity. The ride was a truly amazing an experience which we will never forget. We rode through rain forests, national parks, old villages and the beautiful countryside of Brazil. Riding between 40km & 48km per day which at times was a little challenging! There were 15 people riding for 10 different charities from all over the UK.

We took part in the Brazil Horse Ride to raise money and awareness for HospiceCare, North Northumberland. We both work for the charity and think it is an excellent and very worthy service, which the people of North Northumberland should be very grateful for. HospiceCare was established in 1995 as the North Northumberland Day Hospice, to help meet the needs of local patients and their families. Their services were all developed specifically for the people in this region - and they are all provided free of charge to the people who receive them.

HospiceCare has two centres, one in Berwick and one in Alnwick, where patients find care and support they need in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. With the change of times we are now providing many of our services in the home and at local support centres. We provide one of the only Lymphoedema services in the area, a very strong bereavement support, carers support and many other services. It's likely that they've already helped your neighbour, colleague or loved ones through a very difficult time.

It costs over £1,000 a day to run the hospice (around £400,000 a year) which is raised by the fundraising team from events, charitable donations and grants.

Maxine and Katie raised the money to cover their costs themselves so all money received goes straight to the hospice to be spent on patient care. This is why we have asked you to look at this page, to dig deep and donate to our cause. We both care about the Hospice and want to see it continue to develop and reach out to more people.

The money you donate, however little, will help change the lives of so many people. Donating through this site is simple, fast and completely secure. It's also the most efficient way to sponsor us; HospiceCare receive the money faster and if you are a UK tax payer an extra 25% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page and we hope you can sponsor us.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read about our challenge
